Between bursts of flight, a Little Green Bee-eater lingers on a branch, carefully tending to its feathers—an unhurried ritual in the gentle theatre of the wild.

Not every moment of a raptor’s life unfolds in the sky.

In Yala’s undergrowth, a juvenile White-bellied Sea Eagle pauses beside a trickling stream, drinking deeply before returning to the currents of the wind.

A reminder that even the most powerful wings must, at times, return to the earth.

In the forests of Sri Lanka, the grey langur moves effortlessly between earth and canopy.

With tails longer than their bodies and a diet of leaves and fruit, these primates play a quiet but vital role in maintaining the balance of the island’s ecosystems.

Before the sun breaks the horizon, the jungle is already awake.

A low call in the distance. Leaves shifting. Light waiting to happen.

For Kaushiik Subramanium, an award winning wildlife conservation biologist, photographer, and filmmaker, Yala isn’t just a destination. It’s a living frame, constantly in motion.

Every dawn brings the possibility of a leopard emerging from the shadows, a crocodile holding still like sculpture, birds stitching colour into the canopy.

Guided by expert naturalists and placed at the edge of Yala National Park, the experience allows you to observe without intrusion, to photograph without disturbance.

This is where patience is rewarded. Where silence sharpens the senses. Where the wild reveals itself, one frame at a time.

For those who tell stories through light, timing, and respect for nature, this is the heart of it all.

Kaushiik Subramanium’s POV: One of my favourite series from my recent time at Cinnamon Wild Yala 🦜

This Blue-tailed bee-eater (Merops philippinus) was sat perfectly, just posing for me on a branch. The bird life in this part of Sri Lanka was truly incredible, with a new, beautiful species around every corner.

Looking forward to sharing more moments from Sri Lanka with you all soon!

From his scouting days learning the language of birds and butterflies, Kolitha Senanayake has followed a path shaped by nature.

Volunteering with the Youth Exploration Society led him to Sinharaja, where he trained as a material development officer and deepened his work in conservation from Horton Plains fire-prevention efforts to roles with the Upper Mahaweli Project and The Tea Factory Hotel in Kandapola.

Training in Ahmedabad, along with yoga and Tai Chi, helped him weave mindfulness into his journey.

Today, Kolitha blends science with creativity, identifying species in an instant and turning those moments into art that reminds us why nature is worth protecting. 🌿
