Seetha Amman Kovil in Sita Eliya, Nuwara Eliya, is a unique Hindu temple believed to be the only one in the world dedicated to Sita, the wife of Lord Rama from the epic Ramayana. According to legend, this is the very spot where Sita was held captive by King Ravana, and where she prayed daily for Rama’s rescue. The temple is surrounded by lush greenery and a serene stream, said to be where Sita bathed during her captivity. Visitors can also see mysterious footprints on the rocks, believed to be those of Ravana’s elephant or Hanuman, adding to the temple’s mystical allure. Today, Seetha Amman Kovil is a significant pilgrimage site and a must-visit destination for those exploring Sri Lanka’s Ramayana heritage.
