Yala National Park (Block 5), via Galge Entrance: Where the wild begins quietly!

The journey into Yala National Park’s Block 5 begins at the Galge Entrance, where a sense of quiet anticipation welcomes travellers into one of Sri Lanka’s more peaceful wilderness settings. Did you know that Tissamaharama is famous for producing some of Sri Lanka’s finest buffalo curd?

Experience the daily life of Tissamaharama through one of Sri Lanka’s well-known local food traditions. The experience begins in the early morning, when local farmers milk buffaloes by hand, as part of their regular household practice.

The fresh milk is then traditionally simmered, cooled, and poured into clay pots, where it is left to set into curd using age-old methods still followed in many rural households.

Visitors may observe these processes and interact with village hosts to learn about their daily routines and traditional food-preparation practices passed down through generations.

At an age when many slow down, Catherine Cruse chose to take on one of Asia’s most exciting hiking challenges and made history.

In January 2025, she completed all 22 stages of Sri Lanka’s Pekoe Trail in just 7 days, covering over 300km across the island’s breathtaking hill country, from Hantana to Kandapola.

Now, she returns once again this June, leading a group of 10 international travellers with Connaissance De Ceylan, sharing her passion for Sri Lanka’s landscapes, culture, and authentic experiences.

From scenic Pekoe Trail stages to iconic highlights such as Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella, and Gal Oya, this journey brings together adventure, nature, and connection into one unforgettable experience.

Catherine’s journey reflects how Sri Lanka continues to inspire travellers from around the world, transforming visitors into lifelong ambassadors of the island.
