Nilaveli, literally translated from Tamil as the ‘open land of moon shine’, is home to one of the most iconic and flawless stretch of beach strips in Sri Lanka. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and sometimes known as the 8th wonder of the world, the Sigiriya Rock Fortress is a timeless example of just one of the many remnants of the great kingdoms that existed within Sri Lanka. Boasting a unique architecture, one of the oldest landscaped gardens in the world, frescoes that depict a society long gone and also a mirror wall that chronicles the stories of many travellers that made the climb to the fabled rock. Mount Lavinia around half an hour away from the commercial capital of Colombo, is an interesting and intriguing suburb filled with sun kissed beaches lined with an array of bars and pubs bringing the nightlife in the suburbs of Colombo to an elevated level.
