Pidurangala Rock Temple Pidurangala is situated 2 kilometers off to the north side of Sigiriya and is usually overlooked.This place also has a magnificent history with Sigiriya.The site has been busy on and off for more than 2000 years by monks who used to live there in caves around the site.King Kasyapa sent the monks who lived around Sigiriya and built a monastry here. The royal city of Sigiriya is the product of nearly 1,000 years of urbanism in Sri Lanka.It is one of the earliest royal cities in Asia whose entire urban plan is clearly visible, relatively well-preserved.Between about 477 and 495 AC,Kasyapa and his master-builders erected this new capital city.There were several phases of construction during Kasyapa's long reign,and the complex was still unfinished at his death.
