I HAD A VISION.
When I was designing Meda Gedara, I wanted to have airy open spaces to show the grand heritage architecture. The curve of the huge staircase has also been reflected in the curves in the doorways and fret work.
I knew the proportions of the old victorian furniture would work really well with the design of the villa and the rich dark wood stands out beautifully against the white walls.
I bought all the furniture at auctions in the UK, my husband Jeremy thought I was crazy! The silk rugs were bought at auction in Salisbury, the kilims in the cotswolds, the curtains in the Midlands, the breakfast crockery was an eBay purchase (hauled into the back of my car in a motorway services up the M1) and the perfectly weighted Fiddleback cutlery was collected in dribs and drabs over 3 years as the design of the villa came together. The collection of tea pots and tea cups is on-going; vintage crockery will forever be a passion of mine!
It was slow progress at times but now the villa is completely established, the joy I still get from these details is immensely rewarding .... and the crockery collection keeps growing!
