Join us on a journey to Dolukanda, one of the most sacred mountains in Sri Lanka and a major site on the Ramayana Trail. 🌿
📏 Elevation: Around 600m above sea level
🚶♂️ Hiking Distance: Approx. 4km from the starting point to the main viewpoint
📖 According to historical legend, when Hanuma brought a part of the Himalayas, two pieces of it fell. One piece is the Rumassala mountain range and the other piece is called Dolukanda. Therefore, Dolukanda is a high medicinal paradise. Villagers have visited Dolukanda to collect gum and other adhesives since ancient times. It is believed that during the reign of Buddhadasa, this mountain range was his medicine store.
There are a number of ruins at the top of Dolukanda. Archaeological evidence confirms that it belongs to King Walagamba. The evidence confirms that this area was ruled by people belonging to a local king. (There is a legend as a place where King Dutugamunu's army was organized, and Lankeshwara is Sri Ravana's medicine garden. Since there are medicines that are very similar to the Ritigala mountain range, there is also a legend that Ravana is related).
So, this time our beautiful destination is Dolukanda.
