Yala National Park is home to approximately 300-350 Sri Lankan elephants, a subspecies of the Asian elephant. While sightings are common, they are not as guaranteed as seeing other animals like leopards or deer, and you'll more often see lone males than large herds. For the best chance of sightings, go on an early morning safari, as animals are more active and visible during the cooler parts of the day.
