Our trip to Sri Lanka
This was an amazing trip! There were so many highlights... our outstanding, kind, patient, amazing guide Mr. Ranil!! What an absolute saint. He was so organized and insightful! The hiking was challenging but the views made it totally worth the effort. Honestly I cannot think of a way this trip could have been better. We were so well cared for and it is definitely an active adventure. The guide and tour was extremely good, very flexible (appreciate this!) and for that he deserves a special thanks. He made sure of every little things from our breakfast to dinner if we had proper food or even arranged for it by going an extra mile.

Mr. Ranil is such a warm personality and highly motivated guide (recommendable!). I
All respect for Mr. Ranil who does a great job there; a true sample of excellent tour guide!
Many thanks again and I recommend Mr. Ranil as a guide to everyone!

7 day tour with Ranil / ArtLankaTours: Wonderful experience!
We just finished our 7 day tour with Ranil from Negombo, over Habanara, Nuwara Eliya, Ella and dropoff at Pasikudah. After this wonderful 7 days we want to give you a short review and leave a comment on Ranils service.

First of all: Despite the recent incidents in April and the bad media in Germany, there was not a single moment we didn´t feel safe but we were warmly welcomed at every (!) place by kind people. At restaurants, hotels and even walking on the streets people were super openminded, lovely, kind and very communicative! They were even very thankful that we visited the country in times when tourism dropped massively. So, no worries and visit Sri Lanka :-)

Ranil was recommended by a friend who traveled already two times with him and we weren´t disappointed :-)

As we have never been in Sri Lanka before Ranil took care of all the plannings for our trip, shared useful advices, suggested and finally arranged great hotels and so we actually had no work at all before the trip started.

During our trip he took perfect care of everything and was not only really good company to be with, he also did anything to make our trip perfect. Thank you very much for everything, Ranil!

If you want to have a great experience, see wonderful nature, meet lovely people AND support a country in a tough time -> come and visit Sri Lanka. People will appreciate it a lot and they really deserve it :-)

St. Clair's Falls (Sinhalese: සාන්ත ක්ලෙයාර් ඇල්ල) is one of the widest waterfalls in Sri Lanka and is commonly known as the "Little Niagara of Sri Lanka". It is one of six waterfalls affected by the Upper Kotmale Hydropower Project.

The falls are situated 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) west of the town of Talawakele on the Hatton-Talawakele Highway in Nuwara Eliya District.[1]

The falls are located along the Kotmale Oya, a tributary of the Mahaweli River, as it cascades over three rock outcrops into a large pool,[2] running through a tea estate, from which the falls derive their name from.[3] The waterfalls consist of two falls called "Maha Ella" (Sinhalese "The Greater Fall"), which is 80 metres (260 ft) high and 50 metres (160 ft) wide and "Kuda Ella", (Sinhalese "The Lesser Fall"), which is 50 metres (160 ft) high and located immediately downstream of the main fall.[4] St Clair's falls are the 20th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka.[5][6]

Kandy (Sinhalese: මහනුවර Mahanuwara, pronounced [mahanuʋərə]; Tamil: கண்டி, pronounced [ˈkaɳɖi]) is a major city in Sri Lanka, located in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. It was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka.[1] The city lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is both an administrative and religious city and is also the capital of the Central Province. Kandy is the home of The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world. It was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988.[2]

The city and the region has been known by many different names and versions of those names. Some scholars suggest that the original name of Kandy was Katubulu Nuwara located near present Watapuluwa. However, the more popular historical name is Senkadagala or Senkadagalapura, officially Senkadagala Siriwardhana Maha Nuwara (meaning 'great city of Senkadagala of growing resplendence'), generally shortened to 'Maha Nuwara'. According to folklore, this name originated from one of the several possible sources. One being the city was named after a brahmin with the name Senkanda who lived in a cave near by, and another being a queen of Vikramabahu III was named Senkanda, and after a coloured stone named Senkadagala. The Kingdom of Kandy has also been known by various names. The English name Kandy, which originated during the colonial era, is derived from an anglicised version of the Sinhalese Kanda Uda Rata (meaning the land on the mountain) or Kanda Uda Pas Rata (the five counties/countries on the mountain). The Portuguese shortened this to "Candea", using the name for both the kingdom and its capital.
