𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘴, commonly known as the Whistling Lizard, is a species endemic to Sri Lanka. It inhabits forests, plantations, and other shaded areas. This diurnal lizard is primarily arboreal and is exceptionally well camouflaged among tree trunks and surrounding vegetation. Its diet consists mainly of insects. When threatened, it produces a distinctive whistling sound. Observing C. liolepis in its natural habitat offers visitors a fascinating insight into Sri Lanka’s rich reptile diversity and forest ecosystems.

This shy little bird flashes brilliant blues, purples, and orange as it darts through dense undergrowth, often making it difficult glimpse it in flight. An uncommon resident, it feeds on insects, small frogs, and other tiny forest creatures, nesting in tunnels dug into stream banks.

This rare glimpses of this magical bird come from our recent birding tours, guided by our own expert tour leaders. Join us, the Bird and Wildlife Team, for a chance to find this magnificent bird in the wild.

Black-necked Stork (Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus), a resident and one of the rarest birds in Sri Lanka, and the tallest stork found on the island.
With its striking black-and-white plumage, glossy neck, and red legs, this towering bird is also found across India, Southeast Asia, and northern Australia.
In Sri Lanka, this rare and elegant stork is mainly seen in the southeastern dry-zone wetlands. A solitary hunter of fish and frogs, it thrives in marshes, lakes, and floodplains.

This remarkable sighting comes from one of our recent birding tours, co-led by Diluksha Soysa and Nilanjan Vijethilaka. Join us, the Bird and Wildlife Team, for a chance to find this magnificent bird in the wild.
