This is Sigiriya. I have been here hundreds of times over the past 20 years.

It still gives me chills. 🏰

Standing at the base of this massive 200-meter rock column, looking up at King Kasyapa’s 5th-century fortress, never gets old. Every time I walk up those steps with new guests, I get to see it again through their eyes.

The secret to climbing Sigiriya without the fatigue? Start early at 6:30 AM, take the steady path through the Water Gardens, and take brief pauses at the Mirror Wall to enjoy the morning breeze.

Ayubowan! 🇱🇰 The start of something magical.
We were absolutely delighted to officially welcome the Andrew McLean family to beautiful Sri Lanka on July 30th! After their long flight, it was an honor to greet them with traditional floral garlands at the airport, marking the true beginning of their Sri Lankan adventure.
Over the next 13 days, we will be exploring ancient fortresses, lush tea country, and spotting wild elephants on safari. We’ve designed a special itinerary for them to experience the absolute best of our island.

Nine days ago, I shared something I'd been building quietly for a long time.

Since then, I've heard from so many of you — some who remembered arriving in Sri Lanka carrying more stress than they realised, some who are already dreaming about what "five days of doing nothing" might actually feel like, and some who simply said thank you for sharing something real.

That means more to me than any of you probably know.

Saumya isn't going anywhere. It runs year-round — south coast from November to April, east coast from May to September — because there's no wrong time to slow down.

Ella. The place where Sri Lanka stops feeling like a destination and starts feeling like a deep breath. 🏔️

People think my job starts when I pick someone up from the airport. It doesn't. It starts weeks earlier — thinking through which roads to avoid at which time of day, which restaurant will actually suit a family with young kids, which quiet spot most tourists never find but will mean the most to this particular guest.

20 years in, I still plan every single trip like it's my first. Because every guest is different, and a good itinerary on paper means nothing if it doesn't fit the people living it.

This is the part nobody sees. But it's the part that makes the difference.

People often ask me: "When's the best time to do Saumya?"

The honest answer — there isn't a wrong one.

From November through April, we build the journey around the south coast — calm seas, golden light, the beaches at their best. From May through September, we shift east — Trincomalee, Pigeon Island, a different rhythm of sun and water entirely.

Sri Lanka doesn't close for a season. It just changes character. And Saumya moves with it.
