Back in colonial times, this highland region was thick with forests and mist. The British, realizing the island’s perfect climate, began cultivating coffee, tea, and cocoa here — and soon the lush hills turned into endless green plantations.

Legend has it that one British planter, too tired to watch over his workers, hung his hat on a tree and went back to rest. The workers, thinking the master was still watching, kept working diligently. From then on, people started calling the place “Hat On Estate” — which, over time, became Hatton!

Today, Hatton is still phenomenally beautiful — cool, misty, and full of charm throughout the year. 🌫️🍃

Hidden amidst the lush green hills of Ella, the Nine Arch Bridge is one of Sri Lanka's most picturesque and beloved landmarks. This colonial-era marvel, also known as the "Bridge in the Sky," is a stunning example of railway engineering and natural beauty coming together.

🌉 History & Architecture
Built entirely of stone, brick, and cement—with no steel used in its construction—this 30-meter high and 91-meter long bridge was completed in 1921, during British colonial rule. The craftsmanship is so impressive that it still carries trains safely through the misty mountains today.

🚂 Best Time to Visit
Early morning or late afternoon offers the best views, especially when the blue train curves gracefully across the bridge against a backdrop of mist-covered tea plantations. If you're lucky, you might even catch the train passing right in front of you!
