The Pekoe Trail is a 300-kilometer curated long-distance walking trail that winds through Sri Lanka's breathtaking Central Highlands. One of Asia’s best-kept secrets, this 22-stage journey takes you through some of the finest ecological and mountain terrain in South Asia.
Starting in Kandy and culminating in Nuwara Eliya, the trail passes iconic locations like Haputale, Hatton, and Ella—making it a bucket-list experience for adventurers. As Sri Lanka's first-ever long-distance trail, the Pekoe Trail sets a new standard for trekking in the country.
Stage 1 kicks off at the Ceylon Tea Museum in Hanthana, where you can immerse yourself in the rich history of Sri Lanka's tea industry.
From there, the trail guides you along the Hanthana Tea Estate with magnificent views of the seven peaks of Hanthana and, on clear days, glimpses of the Knuckles mountain range and Victoria Reservoir.
Traverse the rocky ridge of Katusu Konda (meaning Lizard’s Back), where black eagles often glide across the sky.
A scenic highlight of this stage is the iconic mountain facade, featured in the 1983 film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
As you approach the end of the trail, pass through quaint villages like Kithulmulla, renowned for its fresh avocados, before concluding at the Galaha post office.
