Arthur’s Seat View Point – Kandy

Arthur’s Seat View Point, also known as the Kandy View Point, is one of the most breathtaking attractions in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

Perched approximately 550 meters above sea level on Rajapihilla Mawatha, this scenic viewpoint offers a spectacular panoramic view of the historic city. Visitors can admire the tranquil Kandy Lake, the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), the Royal Palace, and the lush green hills that surround the city.

The viewpoint is especially magical during sunrise, sunset, and at night when the city lights create a stunning landscape.

According to local history, the site was named after a British tea planter named Arthur, who is believed to have enjoyed the view from a stone seat beneath a tree.

Today, Arthur’s Seat remains one of Kandy’s most popular photography spots and a must-visit destination for anyone seeking unforgettable views of Sri Lanka’s hill capital. It is free to visit and can be reached with a short walk or tuk-tuk ride from Kandy city center.

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), located in the heart of Kandy, Sri Lanka, is the country’s most sacred Buddhist temple and one of the most revered places of worship in the Buddhist world.

The temple enshrines the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, which has been a symbol of spiritual devotion and royal authority for centuries.

According to history, the relic was brought to Sri Lanka from India during the 4th century CE by Princess Hemamala and Prince Danta. Situated within the historic Royal Palace Complex and beside the picturesque Kandy Lake, the temple is renowned for its magnificent Kandyan architecture, intricate wood carvings, golden roof, and beautifully decorated shrine rooms. It has been carefully preserved and restored over the centuries, reflecting Sri Lanka’s rich cultural and religious heritage.

In 1988, the Sacred City of Kandy, including the Temple of the Tooth, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
