Sri Lanka offers an exceptional range of wildlife experiences within a compact landscape. From elusive leopards moving through dry zone forests, to vibrant birdlife across wetlands and rainforests, the island presents diverse photographic opportunities throughout the year.

At Classic Wild, photo safaris are designed with a clear understanding of species behavior, habitats, and seasonal movement patterns.
Each experience is carefully planned to maximise field time, positioning, and light conditions, allowing photographers to capture natural moments with precision.
Guided by experienced naturalists, these safaris go beyond sightings, focusing on anticipation, patience, and ethical wildlife observation.

Whether it is tracking mammals, observing birdlife, or exploring macro subjects such as reptiles and amphibians, each journey is curated to suit different levels of photographic interest.

We were pleased to host Prof. Mark Hutchison from Australia on a unique wildlife holiday with Classic Wild, focusing on Sri Lanka’s fascinating reptiles and amphibians. Guided by our expert naturalist Ashan Piyasinghe , the tour explored a different side of wildlife tourism, from endemic frogs hidden within rainforests to rare reptiles found only in Sri Lanka. A truly special experience showcasing the island’s incredible biodiversity and the unique wildlife encounters Sri Lanka has to offer.

Not all wildlife stories are loud and visible. Some exist quietly, hidden within grasslands, wetlands, and scrub forests. The Jungle Cat (Felis chaus) is one such species, a secretive predator that plays a vital role in maintaining ecological balance. Often overlooked, small wild cats like the Jungle Cat are essential to the ecosystem. By controlling rodent populations and maintaining the natural food chain, they help keep habitats healthy and functioning.
However, increasing habitat loss, human encroachment, and lack of awareness continue to threaten their survival.

At Classic Wild, we believe conservation is not just about protecting the iconic species, but also the unseen and lesser-known wildlife that sustain our ecosystems. Through collaboration with wildlife authorities and conservation organizations, we actively support initiatives that focus on protecting small wild cats and preserving their natural habitats.

Because true conservation means protecting every layer of the wild.
It starts with awareness. It continues with action. And it succeeds with collective responsibility.

Not every giant needs to roar to command respect.
Some simply stand still… and the wild listens. The Asiatic Wild Buffalo is one of the most formidable creatures in the wilderness, carrying immense strength, towering presence, and sweeping horns that can span nearly two meters. Often misunderstood as just another grazing animal, this powerful herbivore plays a crucial role in shaping grasslands and maintaining balance in wetland ecosystems. Yet today, their story is slowly fading.

Habitat loss, human encroachment, and interbreeding with domestic buffalo threaten their true wild identity. Protecting them isn’t just about saving a species, it’s about preserving the raw strength and spirit of the wilderness itself.

A mother’s love exists in every corner of the wild.
From guiding the first steps to protecting through every danger, nature reminds us that a mother’s strength is one of life’s most powerful forces.

Today, we celebrate the care, sacrifice, and unwavering spirit of mothers everywhere — in the wild and beyond.

Labour is not always seen, and rarely celebrated in the moment it happens. It lives in the quiet repetition of effort, in the unseen acts that slowly shape something greater over time. In the wild, life moves with the same quiet purpose. The Sri Lanka Scimitar Babbler spends its days close to the forest floor, turning leaves, searching patiently, playing its part in maintaining a balance that often goes unnoticed. No grand gestures, just consistent, meaningful action.

There’s something to learn in that rhythm. We may not always know where the impact begins or ends, but what matters is the value we bring, the intention behind every step, and the pride in simply showing up and doing our part. This Labour Day, we honour not just the work, but the quiet strength behind it, the kind that builds, sustains, and shapes the world in ways words often fail to capture. 🇱🇰

Happy Labour Day.

Sri Lanka is home to some of the most remarkable wildlife and national parks in the world. From the rich landscapes of Yala National Park to the untouched beauty of Veheragala National Park, these ecosystems support an incredible diversity of life.

Yala is renowned for having one of the highest densities of leopards globally, while both parks provide sanctuary to species such as sloth bears, Asian elephants, and a wide range of birdlife. These protected areas play a vital role in conserving Sri Lanka’s unique biodiversity and maintaining the balance of nature.

Preserving these habitats ensures that future generations can continue to witness the beauty of wildlife in its natural environment.

Earth Day is a reminder that our planet is not just where we live, but what sustains every form of life. It calls on all of us to reflect, protect, and take responsibility for the world we share. Here in Sri Lanka, we are blessed with incredible natural richness. From dense rainforests to diverse ecosystems, our island is home to a remarkable range of biodiversity, including unique endemic flora and wildlife found nowhere else on Earth. These forests are not just landscapes, they are living ecosystems that support life, culture, and future generations. Protecting them is not a choice, it is a responsibility. This Earth Day, let’s take a pledge to protect the Earth and every life it sustains. Because every forest saved is a life preserved.
