🐆🐘Planning a trip to Yala National Park this September? You might have heard that Blocks 1 & 2 are temporarily closing for their annual drought break (September 14 – October 15, 2026).

But don't unpack those safari clothes just yet—the adventure is still 100% ON!
🌍👇While the main blocks take a quick rest, Yala’s incredible wildlife doesn't disappear. Several stunning sections of the Yala ecosystem and neighboring national parks remain fully open and offer spectacular, uncrowded wildlife viewing:
🌿 Yala Blocks 3, 4, & 5 (Weheragala): Accessible via the Galge entrance, these blocks offer a quieter, wilder experience with excellent chances to spot Yala’s famous leopards and elephants without the jeep crowds.
🐘 Lunugamvehera National Park: The vital forest corridor right next door. Incredible for spotting elephants migrating through the dry zone forests and around the scenic reservoir.
🌅 Udawalawe National Park: Just a short drive away, this is Sri Lanka's ultimate destination for guaranteed, up-close encounters with massive wild elephant herds.
🦩 Bundala & Kumana National Parks: Pristine coastal wetlands and bird sanctuaries teeming with crocodiles, elephants, and thousands of migratory birds.
