Meet John Jeewantha Fernando – Founder of SLDD TOURS
My name is John Jeewantha Fernando, and I am the founder of Sri Lanka Different Driver Tours – SLDD TOURS. I am a professional tourist driver, tour guide, and safari experience organizer from Negombo, Sri Lanka.
My journey in the tourism industry began more than 22 years ago, with the guidance and support of my father. Over the years, I have gained valuable knowledge and experience by working with travelers from many different countries. Tourism is not only my profession—it is my passion and a very important part of my life. My experience as a licensed private guide and my long connection with Sri Lankan tourism have helped me create meaningful and personalized travel experiences for guests.
Through SLDD TOURS, my goal is to show visitors the real beauty of Sri Lanka—not only famous tourist attractions, but also our wildlife, nature, culture, history, local traditions, and the warm hospitality of our people. Every guest is different, so I always try to understand their interests and create a tour that matches their wishes, travel style, and expectations.
My Passion for Wildlife and Safari
Wildlife has always been one of my greatest passions. Sri Lanka is a beautiful island with incredible biodiversity, and I feel proud to introduce our national parks and wildlife to visitors from around the world.
Over many years, I have organized and experienced safaris in some of Sri Lanka’s most famous wildlife destinations, including Wilpattu National Park, Yala National Park, Udawalawe National Park, Minneriya National Park, Kaudulla National Park, and Hurulu Eco Park.
For me, a safari is much more than searching for animals. It is about enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of nature, understanding the behavior of wildlife, observing animal tracks and signs, listening to the sounds of the forest, and appreciating every moment in the natural environment.
Every safari is different. Some days we may see wild elephants, leopards, sloth bears, deer, monkeys, crocodiles, colorful birds, and many other animals. On other days, nature may be quiet—but every journey into the forest is still special. Wildlife cannot be guaranteed, and that is what makes a real safari exciting and unique.
My experience helps me understand the best safari times, suitable routes, seasonal conditions, and the different characteristics of each national park. I work with experienced local safari jeep drivers and trusted teams to provide guests with a comfortable, safe, informative, and memorable experience.
I also enjoy wildlife photography and love helping guests capture beautiful memories during their safari. However, I always believe that animals should be respected and observed responsibly in their natural environment.
