Enjoying real local flavors
Traveling like a local in Sri Lanka led us to the sweetest surprise—fresh Kithul treacle enjoyed on the roadside with my Bulgarian friends. We wandered through villages, shared laughs, and soaked in the island’s simple magic. Our little picnic turned into a memory we’ll talk about forever. Sometimes the best moments come from slowing down, tasting local flavors, and embracing the journey as it unfolds. Sri Lanka, you stole our hearts.

Toddy - locally called raa, is a natural, lightly fermented alcoholic drink made from the sap of palm trees—coconut palm or kithul (toddy palm).
When this sap is further boiled down, it becomes kithul treacle, a sweet syrup used in Sri Lankan desserts.
Treacle Toddy
“Treacle toddy” usually refers to toddy made from kithul palm sap, which has a slightly sweeter, richer flavor than regular coconut toddy.
It’s mildly alcoholic, cloudy, and traditionally enjoyed fresh in rural toddy taverns.
Local vibe
It’s considered an authentic village drink—something you’d try if you want to “travel like a local” in Sri Lanka.

All foreign nationals must now apply for their visa online through the official Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system prior to travel.
