✨Drift along the backwaters of the Negombo Lagoon, where the saltwater from the ocean and the freshwater from the rivers become one dynamic ecosystem. 🏞️

The most common sight on these glistening waters is the colourful boats that bob on the surface, from which the fisherfolk gather their hauls of mud crabs and shrimp—an important source of income for the rural communities. 🦐 🦀

With only the sounds of exotic bird calls from the mangroves nearby, every moment here will feel like a much-needed escape from the bustling city.😊💞

In Sri Lanka, crafting pottery is the timeless art of shaping stories by hand 🏺

✨Each artisan prepares a mixture of clay which is left to set for a month. When the time is right, they knead the clay with water and mould it on a potter’s wheel. After the curves of each pot have been shaped under calloused fingers, crushed stones are used to carve all kinds of traditional designs, and the final product is fired in a kiln for a glossy finish.

You may find clay-based products in roadside stalls during your travels, with many selling cooking pots, ornaments, and even decorative wind chimes for reasonable prices 🤎

Although Mirissa is touted as one of the best places in the world for whale watching, its activities don’t end there—you can swim, snorkel, and sunbathe, and at the end of it all, you can head to the cafes and bars by the beachfront for a seafood snack or a smoothie. 🍤 🌊

Revered by all, this mountain also contains a giant footprint at the peak, which may have been left behind by Lord Buddha, Shiva, or Adam, who was cast out of paradise.🙂💞

✨Set sail across the waters of the north and follow in the footsteps of devotees by offering flowers at the Nainativu Nagadeepa Temple🪷

Legend has it that Lord Buddha visited the temple after attaining enlightenment to resolve a dispute between two Naga kings, who were butting heads over a gem-studded throne. The kings were so moved by the Buddha’s sermon that they gifted the throne to the temple.✨

Today, the temple is revered as one of the 16 most sacred Buddhist sites on the isle. Apart from the stone impression of Lord Buddha’s feet, it also houses a recent donation—a gem-studded throne that serves as a reminder of the temple’s legend.🥰❤

Glide through the serene waterways of the Muthurajawela Wetlands on a boat safari that will leave you in awe of Sri Lanka’s biggest saline marsh.🌿

Touted as a birdwatcher’s paradise, these wetlands shelter egrets, pelicans, moorhens, kingfishers and all kinds of other exotic birds that have turned the mangroves into their home.✨🍃

As you drift past submerged islands and experience a warm welcome from a troop of chattering monkeys, you may also see fishermen paddling on their boats, as well as fishing cats, crocodiles, monitor lizards, and other wildlife lurking in the marsh.☺❤

✨Take the road less travelled to the Ambuluwawa Tower, and let the wind whip past your shoulders as you climb the spiral stairway for breathtaking views of the scenery.⛰️ 🍃

Each twist and turn will reward you with sweeping vistas of the misty mountains, emerald plains, and far-off settlements, giving a whole new meaning to feeling on top of the world.

The base of the tower also leads to a Buddhist temple, a Hindu kovil, a Muslim mosque, and a Catholic church—all of which have cemented the tower’s status as Sri Lanka’s first multi-religious centre, where all are welcome to worship and admire the scenery.❤😊
