Did You Know? 🐘✨

The Dalada Perahara in Kandy is one of the oldest and most spectacular Buddhist festivals in the world, held in honor of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, enshrined at the Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa)!

🔹 The festival dates back over 300 years, with roots tracing to ancient royal traditions of Sri Lanka.

🔹 It features a grand procession of beautifully adorned elephants, traditional Kandyan dancers, fire performers, drummers, and whip-crackers, all lighting up the streets of Kandy at night.

🔹 The lead elephant carries a replica casket representing the Sacred Tooth Relic - the real relic never leaves the temple!

🔹 The festival usually takes place over 10 nights in July or August (Esala month), building up to a grand finale known as the Randoli Perahara.

🔹 It's recognized as one of Asia's most colorful and culturally rich festivals, drawing visitors from all over the world.
