Ella Rock

It is a popular viewpoint that offers stunning panoramic views extending toward the eastern side of Sri Lanka. Visitors can also enjoy a beautiful sunrise early in the morning. The mountain, covered with eucalyptus plantations, belongs to the Forest Department and faces Ella Mini Adam’s Peak.
Ella Rock has two viewpoints. The second viewpoint is about 200 meters away from the main one, and from there, you can clearly see the upper and lower parts of Ravana Falls as well as the Ella–Wellawaya road. The trail to Ella Rock passes by the Kitalella Waterfall.
If you want to see the sunrise from Ella Rock, you should start your hike around 4:00 a.m. from Ella town. It’s recommended to hire a good local guide for a reasonable price. The only way to reach Ella Rock is on foot, as there are no motorable roads. However, there is an alternative hiking route starting from Heel Oya.

Ravana Water Falls

It is indeed one of the most stunning and well-known waterfalls in Sri Lanka. It's located in the scenic Ella region, which is a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful landscapes and lush greenery. The waterfall flows from the Nayabeddha Mountain Range and passes through the village of Bambaragama, making it a charming spot not only for nature lovers but also for those interested in experiencing rural Sri Lankan life.

The waterfall itself stands out due to its majestic height and the refreshing atmosphere around it. It's an easy stop along the Ella-Wellawaya road, which is a well-trodden route for travelers exploring the area. Because it's situated near the popular Ella town, which is known for other attractions like Ella Rock and the Nine Arches Bridge, Ravana Water Falls draws a lot of visitors, especially those on a nature or adventure tour.

In addition to its natural beauty, Ravana Water Falls also has some cultural significance. The waterfall is associated with the legendary figure Ravana from the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana. According to local folklore, it is believed that Ravana used the caves near the waterfall to hide his wife Sita during her abduction. This myth adds a mystical dimension to the already breathtaking landscape.
If you're planning to visit, the area offers great opportunities for trekking, photography, and even a refreshing dip in the cool waters below the falls.

The Nine Arches Railway Bridge

It is also known as the Demodara Bridge, is indeed an awe-inspiring piece of engineering. Its combination of historical significance, architectural beauty, and natural surroundings makes it a standout landmark in Sri Lanka. The way it blends into the verdant tea plantations and rugged landscapes of Ella adds to its mystique.
What makes the bridge even more captivating is its design and construction during the British colonial era, using local materials and labor, yet showcasing an engineering style that was revolutionary at the time. The fact that it still serves as a functional railway link today is a testament to its robust design. Its continued role in transporting both passengers and goods across such a challenging terrain is remarkable. Plus, the views from the area are legendary seeing a train cross the bridge with the backdrop of rolling hills and lush forests is like a scene straight out of a movie.
Have you had the chance to visit the Nine Arches Bridge or are you planning to? It’s a bucket-list destination for many, especially for photography enthusiasts!
