Here is a short and beautiful description of tea cultivation in Sri Lanka ๐ฟ๐
Tea cultivation in Sri Lanka began in 1867. It was first introduced by James Taylor, who started the first commercial tea plantation at Loolecondera Estate. Since then, Sri Lankan tea has gained worldwide recognition for its high quality.
Tea is mainly grown in the central highlands of the country, especially in areas such as Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, and Ella. The cool climate, misty hills, and abundant rainfall in these regions create perfect conditions for growing tea.
Sri Lankan tea, famously known as โCeylon Tea,โ is highly valued around the world. It is classified as High Grown, Mid Grown, and Low Grown tea based on the elevation at which it is cultivated. The tea industry plays a major role in the countryโs economy and provides employment for thousands of people.
The endless green tea plantations covering the hills, surrounded by soft white mist, add great natural beauty to Sri Lanka ๐๐
