"Nilaveli", once a small fishing village situated about 14 km away from the eastern town of Trincomalee, is now famous for its very own unique, breathtaking beaches of pristine sand and diverse, exceptional underwater beauty. Things to do in and around “The Residence Nilaveli” are numerous. A little passed to the north of Nilaveli lie the lovely beaches of Kuchchaveli, the waters of which the writer John Still once delightedly described as “warm as tea”. It is also close to Pigeon Island National Park, a marine sanctuary a kilometer off its coast, home to 100 different varieties of coral and 300 varieties of coral reef fish also the home to the Blue Rock Pigeon, so common in south India. The waters around this island are a spear – fisherman’s paradise. The very vast lagoon at Kokkilai which constitutes a wild life sanctuary is the paradise for bird watchers. The shallows here attract an astonishing variety of waders; wild duck and pelican are quite common; but the specialty of the place is flamingos which can be seen in numbers. About 6 kilometers away from “The Residence Nilaveli” you can find the Red Rocks Beach, Ideal not only for bathing and family picnicking among its pink boulders and blue pools but also an ideal place for fishing. Snorkeling and Diving, Whale and Dolphin watching and tours to view the beauteous coral reefs of Pigeon Island, Trishaw (Tuks) rides, Air port pickups and drop offs and tours to any part of the island can be arranged for your convenience from “The Residence Nilaveli”.
