Guardians of the treetops… 🐒🌿✨
Spotted in Yala and Udawalawe National Parks, these Tufted Gray Langurs (Heli Wandura) are not just playful primates.
They’re alert sentinels of the dry zone forests. With their keen eyesight, they can spot predators like leopards or eagles from high in the trees, often alerting nearby spotted deer in a remarkable display of mutual trust. 🌳💛
Also known as Hanuman Langurs, they’re named after the Hindu monkey-god Hanuman and are considered sacred in local culture. Mostly leaf-eaters, they supplement their diet with fruits and flowers, moving seamlessly between treetops and the forest floor in search of food. 🌿🍃
These fascinating primates are currently Near Threatened, making every sighting a precious glimpse into the wild heritage of Sri Lanka.
