Unakanda

Unakanda Barefoot luxury accomodation overlooking Unawatuna Beach. 3 private villas, all with amazing views.

Unakanda is a boutique resort and natural sanctuary perched on over an acre of lush, hilltop land above Unawatuna beach. Surrounded by palms, fruit trees, and a water-filled stone quarry, it’s a haven for wildlife and a playground for monkeys. Our journey began with the 'White House', a two-bedroom village home transformed into a light-filled retreat in 2015. In 2017, we added a two-level building

with suites, ideal for a couple or for larger groups staying at the 'White House'. In 2023, we introduced 'Mango House' a lovely two level, 3 bedroom home with amazing sea views, perfect for larger groups and families. Our incredible local team provides guests with attentive service. At Unakanda, we blend new ideas, local materials, sustainability, and natural beauty to create a unique experience. We’re committed to making a positive impact on both people and the planet, prioritising eco-friendly practices and community support as we continue our sustainability journey.

This little cutie needs a name. It can regularly be found sunbathing in the thunbergia near the balcony. 🌸

There’s nothing quite like coming back to Sri Lanka and opening our guest book. Messages like this remind us why we do what we do.

Thank you Caroline & Tim for the kind words — and for loving Unakanda as much as we do.

Dear All,
We have had the most wonderful stay here over the past 2 weeks.
The villa has been even better than we expected and the team are just amazing — on hand if needed (which we did when I had a tummy bug for a couple of days!).

The bed was so comfortable we slept the best we ever have, and breakfast every morning prepared by Ranga and the team was a joy to wake up to. The omelette… so good — I will miss it!!

Your villa is the perfect place to stay with the views and yet so close to the town and Galle.
We loved the dogs — so friendly, and we gave them nicknames: 'Muttley' and 'Lady Penelope'.

Thank you for making our visit to Sri Lanka one we shall never forget.
Amazing.

Caroline & Tim
U.K."

ps...I wonder which dog was nicknamed Muttley and which was Lady Penelope?

A gentle farewell on the hill

Life in the jungle brings joy, mischief, and sometimes loss. Yesterday, one of our langurs passed away on the steps at Unakanda.

The troop stayed nearby for a while, warning the dogs away, before quietly moving on. Later, our team laid the langur to rest with care — wrapped in cotton and with flowers from the garden.

It was a reminder that this hilltop isn’t just our home, but theirs too. 🌸
