"Bolgoda" is the largest fresh water lake in Sri Lanka. It is also slightly connected with a lagoon & an estuary at a one end of it mixing it's fresh water with salty sea water making it an ideal location for breeding of Crabs 🦀, Prawns 🦐 & different species of Fish 🐟. It has two different parts that are recognized as "Bolgoda North Lake" & "Bolgoda South Lake". Nothern part of it located around Panadura, Moratuwa, Piliyandala areas & Southern part of it licated around Wadduwa & Bandaragama. It is home to some of the greatest sightings of mangroves in mostof it's banks. Bolgida is also an ideal location for the birding lovers offering great sceneries for bird photography. One can also spot Mugger Crocodiles 🐊 being patient to wait in certain areas of the lake. Inland fishing around Bolgoda Lake is quite interesting to see due to it's traditional methods, specially with prawn fishing. Fishermans use an unique method calles "Jaa Kotu" for prawn fishing. Monkeys 🐵, Fishing Cats 🐾️, Fruit Bats, Eagles, Kingfishers, Otters & Plm Civets can also be seen throughout the year. Being the unspoilt location around Bolgoda Lake which is Wadduwa, travelers can reserve motor boats or traditional fishing canoes called Angula go on an unforgettable tour.
