MALETSUNYANE FALLS,
Located near the town of Semonkong in Lesotho, is one of Southern Africa’s most breathtaking natural wonders. It is among the highest single-drop waterfalls on the continent.
The nearby town, Semonkong—meaning "Place of Smoke"—is aptly named for the mist that rises from the waterfall’s base. Over the years, Maletsunyane Falls has gained international recognition, including a Guinness World Record for the world's longest commercially operated abseil at 204 meters.
Today, Maletsunyane Falls and the surrounding Semonkong area offer a variety of activities for visitors:
Abseiling: Experience the thrill of descending alongside the falls on the world’s longest commercial abseil, a 204-meter drop certified by Guinness World Records.
Hiking: Explore scenic trails that offer panoramic views of the falls and the rugged Lesotho highlands.
Horseback Riding: Embark on pony treks through the mountainous terrain, a traditional Basotho mode of transport.
Bird Watching: Observe a variety of bird species, including the endangered Cape Vulture, in the Maletsunyane Gorge.
The Maletsunyane Braai Festival
Maletsunyane Braai Festival has become Lesotho’s largest tourism event. Attendees can enjoy braai (barbecue), live performances by local and international artists, and various outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and abseiling.
The festival not only offers entertainment but also contributes to the local economy by creating employment opportunities and promoting tourism in the region .
Whether you're seeking adventure, cultural experiences, or simply the serene beauty of nature, Maletsunyane Falls and the vibrant community of Semonkong offer an unforgettable experience for tourists.
