Alanta — one of the oldest towns in the Moletai region, first mentioned as far back as the 15th century.

🌿 Today people come not only for the history, but for the feeling of a quiet small town, the impressive Alanta Manor, the old architecture, and the nature all around.

Sometimes the most beautiful places are the ones nobody is talking about.

Sculpture “The Name of Molėtai”
In 2020, this historical memory was immortalized in the sculpture “The Name of Molėtai”, gifted to the city by local ceramic artists and folk creators of the Molėtai region.
The sculpture is made of individual ceramic blocks decorated with symbols of the Molėtai region and united into one collective artwork. Engraved on them are 16 authentic variations of the name “Molėtai”, discovered in old letters, historical documents, and archival sources. All names are written in Latin script — exactly as Molėtai was referred to during different periods throughout the centuries.
This is more than just a piece of art. It is a living reflection of the city’s identity, linguistic evolution, and historical memory.

Church of the Apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Molėtai.

The church was first mentioned in 1522. The original building was most likely wooden. At the beginning of the 18th century, during the Great Northern War, it was destroyed by the Swedes, and around 1720 a brick church was built in its place.
The current Church of St. Apostles Peter and Paul was constructed in 1905 under the care of priest Kazimieras Bandzevičius. The church is built in Neo-Baroque style, with a Latin cross layout, two towers, and a prominent façade.
The interior is bright and welcoming, with Neo-Classical altars and an organ façade. The church also houses 12 significant works of art.

Moletai has a ~5 km trail that takes you past lakes, sculptures, swimming spots — and even the longest outdoor slide in the country. It’s called a city walk.
But it feels like something else entirely. ~2.5 hours. Flat path. Benches when you need them. Views the whole way.

Save this for your next trip. 🌿
