Lithuanian Jewish Heritage Trip

Lithuanian Jewish Heritage Trip Learn about the Jewish History of Lithuania. Visit the archives in Kovno and Vilna. See the remaining synagogues and cemeteries.

We will be visiting Lithuania this summer; would you like to come with us? We have been planning trips to Lithuanian for groups of people interested in their Jewish heritage for 20 years. In addition to visiting Vilnius and Kaunas, we will have two days for individual roots tours. Our main purpose in planning these trips is to offer people an opportunity to go back to their Jewish roots, to encour

age them to research their ancestors, and to enable them to see the latest efforts being made to keep Judaism alive in Lithuania. Since profit is not the main motive, all arrangements are made in a first class manner intended to make the trip enjoyable and meaningful for all. Prior to the trip, we will inform you of the do’s and don’ts - what to wear, what to take with you, what to leave home, and many other little tips that help make the trip an enjoyable one. While this is a group trip, we try as much as possible to make it a personal trip, tailored to individual needs. Please respond to - [email protected]

This is a picture of the "Jewish Cemetery" in Vilnius that so many people are upset about. It was turned into a Sports Center by the Soviets in 1973. It was excavated to 25 feet at that time.

Thank you to Jo Ann Goldwater for sharing this lins.
Last Sunday, Oct 9th, 2016, the 75th anniversary of the massacre of 3000 Jews was commemorated in Zagare, a small town in Lithuania, right on the border with Latvia. This is a photo of Leonas Levinskas who as a young boy, helped his parents save a Jewish woman with her granddaughter (who I believe is still alive in Jerusalem). The family was honoured by Yad VaShem, and they were named as Righteous among Nations. Even if you don't read Russian, have a look at the photos. If you use Google Chrome, you can copy and paste the URL and it will translate the entire site.

Есть такой городок в Литве прямо на границе с Латвией - Žagarė. По-русски он называется Жагоры, по-немецки Szagarren. Кто там только не жил - литовцы, немцы и, конечно же,…

The Castle at Trakai is a major landmark and one of the largest attractions in Lithuania. Pamela asked about finding her bubbie's home that was on "a road (very slippery in winter) that led down to the lake with the red castle in it." I'm not sure if the house is still standing, but the castle is easy to find!

The existing Vilnius Jewish cemetery is still in use. Here are a few pictures of the cemetery.
