Located on the western shore of Lake Plateliai, the largest lake in Samogitia, this charming destination is perfect for nature and culture lovers alike!

Ever tasted spring straight from a tree? 👀

In Lithuania, locals head into the forests for a centuries-old ritual: collecting "sula" - fresh tree sap. Clear as water, lightly sweet, and with a hint of earthy notes... 💧

Some sip it fresh, others add it to soups, and the adventurous even ferment it with raspberry canes - earning it the nickname “birch blood”.

🧙‍♀️ But here’s a twist: folklore suggests once St. George’s Day (April 23) arrives, you should stop drinking it… as witches are believed to bathe in it.

There is a tiny republic hidden inside Vilnius… and it has its own constitution, currency, and even border control. 👀

👉 Užupis, a distinctive district in the city, is marking 28 years since its symbolic declaration of independence on April 1, 1997. Just like any country, it has a border, and if you are visiting on April 1st, you can even get your passport stamped as you enter. Missed the date? No worries, throughout the year, stamps are available at the Užupis Information Centre. 🛂

Lithuanians are known for their love of trees - a bond that goes back to our ancestors. 🌳

The Oak of Laukiai, growing in Rukai village, Skuodas district, perfectly embodies this connection. Planted over 400 years ago by the Laukiai family, it has witnessed 6 generations of the family and the local community. Standing 27 meters tall with a 5.1-meter trunk, the Oak of Laukiai has been named European Tree of the Year 2026. 💚
