Happy !

This year’s theme is Accelerate Action, and one way to do that is by supporting the supporters. From day one, I’ve prioritized working with small, women-run businesses, because doing so keeps resources where they belong, helps families and strengthens communities. It turns out that supporting women has also enriched my travels in ways I could have never imagined.

But today I’d like to turn the tables, to celebrate my OG cheerleaders: my mom and mother-in-law, intrepid septuagenarians whose unwavering belief in me has fueled my journey. I couldn’t be more grateful for them and for everyone who has supported

Here’s to the women who lift us up—and here’s to doing the same for others.

You might not believe it but one of the highlights of my last trip to Morocco was when a traveler lost their wallet.

They thought they left it on our bus overnight, but when we set off to leave the next morning, they couldn’t find it anywhere. The wallet wasn’t on the bus, in the hotel, in their bags or anyone else’s for that matter. We worked backwards and determined they last had it at the roadside restaurant where we had lunch the day before. Between Google, Facebook and TripAdvisor, we found five incorrect numbers for the place but got lucky with the sixth.

The person who answered put us through to the manager who said that a waiter had found a wallet in the parking lot the evening before. He looked inside and saw that it belonged to an American and remembered our group. He had tried to get in touch with the owner of the wallet to no avail so was happy we got in touch. When he found out where we were and where we were going, he said he knew of a driver heading in the same direction, so gave the wallet to him to deliver to us at a mutually convenient location.

We had to make a small adjustment to our plans - and made an enjoyable detour to visit the Atlas Film Studios - and then met the driver with the wallet at exactly the time he said he’d meet us. The wallet was handed over with everything intact (credit cards, IDs and no small amount of cash).

The moral of the story? Great moments can happen even when things go awry and it is an absolute truth that most people are good.

Shortly after I arrived last night, I went for a little stroll in the Medina. And realizing that I was woefully underprepared for the chilly temperatures, I popped into one of my favourite shops to look at their warm layers and met these two lovely lovely ladies (pictured with , third generation weaver and owner of the shop). We up spending much of the evening together shopping and laughing like old friends, so much so that everyone we met that night thought we were!

One of the things I love most about travel is meeting new people along the way. I think there’s something about being away from home and the daily grind that opens people up to connections in a way that nothing else does. In a few hours, I’ll meet my newest group but I already know it’s going to be so good to know them, just as it has been for everyone else I’ve travelled with. 💕

I’m not the most athletic person and am definitely not an outdoorsy type. When I’m faced with a physical challenge, my default is to back away. So a trek in Peru involving hiking and actual non-luxury-tent camping? Hmmmm. But then…

I love being outside and the way it feels to get moving. And the opportunity to do this on a grand adventure in Peru? I can’t not be excited. The trip will be in November and I’m cohosting with .thebe . She’s a big proponent of pushing yourself out of your comfort zone because she knows how much you’ll reap the rewards later. Also, we’ll be visiting Machu Picchu, need I say more?

A few spots still available. Link in bio for more information.

If you take a look at my story highlights, you might think that I am a Morocco-centric travel planner. It’s true that I’ve spent a fair bit of time there recently but I do run trips to other beautiful and exiting places.

…like Peru! This September, I’m heading to trek the Andes with the indomitable .thebe . We’ll spend a few days discovering the Sacred Valley and then a few days hiking in the Andes. At the end of our trip we will arrive at that bucket-list experience: Machu Picchu. Join us? (Link in profile)
