5-Day Adventure from Marrakech to Fes via the Sahara Desert
This 5-day adventure from Marrakech to Fes offers an immersive journey through Morocco’s most iconic landscapes, from the High Atlas Mountains to the golden dunes of the Sahara, with extra time to fully experience Merzouga and its surroundings.
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley
Depart from Marrakech and cross the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, then continue through Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses before reaching the dramatic Dades Valley for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Merzouga Desert
Travel through Tinghir to explore the impressive Todra Gorge, famous for its towering canyon walls. In the afternoon, arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara Desert. Enjoy a camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset and spend the night in a desert camp with traditional Berber dinner and music under the stars.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert – 4x4 Excursion
Spend a full day exploring the Sahara by 4x4. Visit nomadic families, discover desert oases, fossil sites, and the black volcanic desert. Stop in the village of Khamlia to enjoy traditional Gnawa music. Return to Merzouga for a relaxed evening and overnight stay near the dunes or in a desert camp.
Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Ziz Valley – Middle Atlas – Fes
After breakfast, depart Merzouga via Rissani and the lush Ziz Valley. Cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in the cedar forests of Azrou to see Barbary macaques and visiting Ifrane, the “Switzerland of Morocco,” before arriving in Fes in the evening.
