The Hassan Tower (Tour Hassan) is the iconic, unfinished 12th-century minaret located on Boulevard Mohamed Lyazidi in Rabat , Commissioned in 1195 by the Almohad Sultan Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur, it was designed to be the centerpiece of the largest mosque in the western Muslim world. However, when the Sultan died in 1199, construction halted abruptly. The striking red sandstone tower was left frozen at 44 meters (144 feet) tall, exactly half of its intended 86-meter height.
