The Hike and Chill Hostel was created by an individual looking for a challenge. He wanted to create an economical and socially responsible property located in the southern Atlas Mountains in the city of Tinghir. The house is contained in the heart of Tinghir’s old jewish quarter that is more than 200 years old. It has been restored from crumbling dirt, and now offers itself as a place for artists
and culture to thrive. Featuring numerous vibrant murals on the inside walls, it is a most relaxing escape with the sounds of birdsongs and beautiful views from the rooftop terrace that look out over Tinghir’s main attraction, the communal garden, and also across to the stunning Atlas Mountains. Sleep on the terrace if you want, and witness breathtaking views of the night skies through crystal clear desert air. Take a walk in the garden, visit the many shops near by, shop for your food at the local produce market, or visit the Monday souk (market) or Saturday livestock souk where the local Moroccans can be found bartering and trading. Take a tour through the nearby crumbling and abandoned kasbahs or go get lost in the river valleys and hillsides that surround the city. The hostel is also located within a five to eight minute walk to the post office, ATM, the bus station and taxi stand. Everything you will need for your stay is close by. Upon entering the house from the narrow Medina alleyways, you will climb stairs to the first level that features a private bedroom, bath and sitting area. Climbing up the stairs to the next level brings you to the well-equipped kitchenette, living room and dining room with a fire place. This level also houses multiple sleeping options for those just needing a bunk, to more private options if wanted. One more flight up brings you to the sunny terrace and communal bathroom. These common comfortable spaces and the tranquil atmosphere of the house make it a perfect place to enjoy Tinghir from. Of course, there is free wireless internet in your room and in the entire house always at your disposal. The house is perfectly secure and you will be free to take your room key and the main door key with you just like being at home. We really appreciate the selection of local foods, from the vegetables in the market, local meat, couscous and berber pizza to the fresh fish that arrives every Saturday and Thursday from the nearby countryside. We are happy to show you where to get all the good things for your meals, either to prepare at the house or have it cooked in a local cafe. We are also happy to show you how to cook traditional berber dishes and we can all enjoy them as a group in the large dining room of the hostel. We are happy to provide delicious breakfasts, and picnics and we have a network of hiking and rock climbing guides to please the more adventurous folks. There are many unique and exciting things to do in the Tinghir area, and we look forward to sharing them all with you. Please contact us if you have any questions or would like to take advantage of this opportunity and witness first hand the breathtaking southern Atlas Mountains of Morocco. We look forward to meeting you and showing you our culture while also learning about yours!
