4-Day Deep Dive: The M'hamid El Ghizlane Desert
Day 1: Palm Groves, Old Village & The Small Dunes (Erg Lihoudi)
Morning (M'hamid Local Exploration):
Walk through the local palm groves (the palmeraie) bordering the Draâ River. This area is a sharp contrast of green life against the desert, where local agriculture (dates, henna, vegetables) thrives.
Explore Old M'hamid (Ksar M'hamid): Wander through the winding, abandoned, and partially inhabited mud-brick streets of the original settlement, noting the traditional architecture.
Lunch: Enjoy a traditional meal at a guesthouse or in the center of M'hamid village.
Afternoon Trek (Camel/4x4):
Begin your desert journey toward the closer dunes of Erg Lihoudi (The Jewish Dune), about 9 km from the village.
Travel by camel caravan (approx. 2 hours) or short 4x4 ride to reach the camp area in time for sunset.
Night: Sunset viewing from the dunes, dinner at a simple desert camp near Erg Lihoudi, and traditional nomadic music.
Day 2: Trekking the Hamada to Erg Chigaga (The Great Dunes)
Morning Trek: After sunrise and breakfast at Erg Lihoudi, begin your journey deeper into the true Sahara. You have a choice:
Option A (Trekking Focus): Start a full-day camel trek or walking trek, accompanied by your guides, heading further west.
Option B (4x4 Focus): Be picked up by a 4x4 for the drive across the rocky desert (hamada) and sand tracks.
Mid-Day Exploration: Cross a wide, flat desert plateau, sometimes stopping near the seasonal riverbed (Oued Naam) where ancient settlements existed. Picnic lunch is typically served in the shade of a tamarisk tree.
Afternoon Arrival: Continue until you reach the massive, towering dunes of Erg Chigaga (The Roaring Dune), Morocco's largest sand sea.
Night: Check into the deep desert camp, climb the highest dune for a spectacular sunset, followed by dinner and stargazing.
Day 3: Chigaga Dune Exploration, Oasis & Nomadic Culture
Sunrise & Sandboarding: Wake early for the Chigaga sunrise. After breakfast, try sandboarding or sandsurfing down the high slopes of the dune.
Desert Circuit (4x4): Use the 4x4 to explore a loop deeper into the surrounding area, visiting remote desert feat
