Chisinau Underground Map (2008) – spaces defined by alternative cultures and initiatives
It happens to us all the time to walk in town in the evening and to meet tourists who ask us to recommend them some club with good music or a bar with nice people to talk to. The maps bought insight the city bookshops are usually not offering more information than strictly about how to find a street or building belonging to the state or of a corporative nature like hotels and museums are. Places and spaces that people are indeed looking for are usually marked with a pen on that map, which, after all, is functioning as blank map that is to be completed by its user, depending on his interests and preferences.
The Chisinau UNDERGROUND Map is an attempt to identify those places that are being founded by various communities and being shaped by their own tastes, free and self generated preferences, and to reunite them within a larger frame that presents an alternative cultural scene in Chisinau.
