I've heard a few people say, "What's the point in going on holiday with them when they're a baby? You're just going for yourself."

And while we are also going on holiday for ourselves (and there's nothing wrong with that), I firmly believe that the above is so true.

Plus, you can't tell me he won't look back at these photos when he's older and feel happy we made so many memories together right from the beginning of his life.

Because, if you are able to go, why wait?

Vienna, Austria 🇦🇹

October, 2023

We visited Vienna as part of a two-part trip, after going to Bratislava. The two cities are only an hour apart, making it very easy to visit them both in one trip! To make the trip even easier, we flew into Bratislava and flew out of Vienna.

We only had time for one night in Vienna, and we wish we'd had much longer! It is an absolutely beautiful city with amazing architecture and lots to see and do.

We'd heard that Vienna is expensive, but we found it to be very reasonable!

Things we enjoyed doing in our short time in Vienna:
🎼 Watching a concert at Karlskirche
🏘 Wandering around Naschmarkt
💒 Visiting the Schönbrunn Palace and St. Stephen's Cathedral
🏰 Visiting the Belvedere Palace
🍽 Trying Goulash

Overall, I would highly recommend Vienna, and we'd love to go back and spend more time there. If you'd like more tips for visiting Vienna, or help with booking a trip there, feel free to drop me a DM 📩

Montenegro 🇲🇪

October 2025

Our first holiday with our little son!

We stayed in Herceg-Novi at the Palmon Bay Hotel, and I could recommend it more. A lot of the towns in Montenegro (such as Kotor, Tivat and Budhva) are absolutely stunning, but they are all cobbled streets and lots of steps. This isn't ideal for a push chair! So I found Herceg-Novi, which has a 7.5km promenade lined with shops, bars and restaurants as well as an Old Town to explore.

We flew from to Dubrovnik and then took a short 45 minute transfer over the border to Montenegro. We did all of this as part of a package with

Everything ran so smoothly and our hotel was stunning. It had a spa area with a mineral water swimming pool and lots of different saunas and steam rooms, which was ideal as the outdoor pool wasn't heated and was cold at this time of year!

The bars and restaurants were all still open but weren't too busy, which we also really liked. The weather was mid-20s through the day and just under 20 degrees on an evening.

Herceg-Novi was absolutely stunning and offered everything we needed. We used the baby carrier to explore the Old Town and it wasn't too hot to carry the baby around at this time of year.

However, I will day that Herceg-Novi was about an hour away from Kotor and Tivat where there is lots more to do. If we were still travelling as a couple, we'd probably have stayed there.

We found Montenegro to be so reasonably priced, with so many different cuisines to sample. The locals are also extremely friendly and relaxed, which all adds to the holiday atmosphere. The only negative I can think of is that you can still smoke inside the bars and restaurants, but perhaps this put us off more because we had the baby with us.

I would definitely recommend visiting Montengro and the Palmon Bay Hotel in particular! If you'd like to know more about Montenegro, or help with planning a trip here, feel free to drop me a DM. 📩

Use your hand luggage!

With package holidays, you usually get 10kg of hand luggage included. Use this to your advantage to pack heavy things like shoes and books. That way, you'll have more space and allowance for clothes and nappies (which I've recently learnt take up so much space!) in your hold luggage.

Bratislava, Slovakia 🇸🇰

October, 2023

We went to Bratislava as part of a two-part trip to here and Vienna. Both capital cities are only an hour's drive apart, so we decided to combine them both into one trip!

We loved Bratislava. It felt really European and not too touristy at all, with plenty of places to eat and drink, and lots to see in do.

We flew from Edinburgh airport for less than £50, and then stayed in a quaint Airbnb in the city centre.

Things we enjoyed seeing and doing in Bratisalava:
⛴️ Danube river cruise
🏰 Visiting Bratislava Castle, and enjoying the panoramic views and castle gardens (free of charge)
🔎 Finding the quirky Cûmil statue
🍻 Enjoying a local cask ale at one of the many brewery bars
🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏼‍♂️ Going for a run along the Danube riverside walk (where everyone shouts hello at each other as you pass 🥹)
🏘 Meandering around the quaint cobbled streets
🍽 Enjoying the city's cafe culture

Something we would have loved to do if we'd had more time is to take a day trip to Dracula's Castle!

📢 A travel hack for cheaper flights and package holidays 📢

If you live in the UK, always check the school holidays of other UK countries. For example, Scottish summer holidays run from the end of June until mid-August, where English summer holidays are mid-July until the start of September.

Therefore, if you live in Scotland and want to book a summer holiday, look at deals for the end of June/start of July from Newcastle or Leeds airport. A 2/3 hour drive could save you hundreds! Likewise, if you live in England, look for deals flying from Edinburgh or Glasgow at the end of August.

It can be a really good way to get a much better deal without having to take your children out of school and risk those fines!

Malta 🇲🇹

April 2024

Malta is a small island right in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, between Italy, Tunisia and Greece. It has always been a sought-after place during wars, but gained its independence from the UK in 1964.

You can really feel the influences from different countries. There are a beautiful mix of Italian, Greek and African buildings and a huge range of cuisines to choose from when eating out. I feel like Malta is the Singapore of Europe!

With cities, medieval towns, sandy and pebble beaches, and coves, it really does have it all - and all within 315km2.

We found prices to be very reasonable in Malta, and the weather is great for most of the year. The public transport in Malta is also very good, easy to use, and is used by tourists and locals.

Some of our favourite things to do in Malta include:
🍽 Trying the many different cuisines on offer, with the fantasic sea view many restaurants have to offer.
🛥 A boat trip to Gozo Island, Comino and The Blue Lagoon.
🌊 Visiting the Blue Grotto.
🌇 Exploring the quaint streets of Valetta, the capital.
🏖 Relaxing on one of the sandy beaches.
🏛 Exploring the 'Silent City', Mdina.
🏘 Visiting Pop-Eye Village.

Malta really has so much to offer, and is just a really beautiful place to visit. I'd highly recommend a holiday here, and with direct flights from all over the UK, including Newcastle, it really couldn't be easier.

If you like some more detail about my Malta recommendations or help with booking, feel free to drop me a DM. 📩
