What about Madagascar island?
Madagascar is very interesting not only for its landscape but also for its flora and fauna. For the naturalist, Madagascar is the “promised land” with untold opportunities to discover the rarest and unique biodiversity on our planet. There are over 200,000 species living in habitats ranging from rain forest to desert and from mountain top to mangrove swamp.
Madagascar is the most unique eco-tourism destination in the world. The high level of endemism lures you to explore and discover all of the distinctive and odd creatures which exist only in Madagascar. The country boasts that 80% of all plants are endemic, as are 95% of the mammals, 90% of the reptiles, and over 50% of the birds. Many Malagasy animals display behavioral and physical characteristics that have long since disappeared in continental fauna.
Madagascar is also the last place on earth to have experienced the disappearance of diverse groups of large indigenous mammals (megafauna) such as the extinct elephant bird and giant lemurs. New species of plants and animals are being discovered each time a scientific team leads an expedition here.
