🐋PARC NATIONAL KIRINDY MITE
The Kirindy Mite National Park, with a total area of 156,350 Ha, of which 128,440 Ha is land and 27,910 Ha is water.
Ha for the marine part, is located north of Belo sur Mer, 70 km from Morondava. This Park is characterized by a diversity of landscapes with different ecosystems and a high biodiversity, ranging from huge coastal dunes to dry forests, coral islands and white sandy beaches. Important stands of baobab trees are found in the Park, representing three endemic species from the south and southwest: Adansonia grandidieri (EN),
Adansonia rubrostipa and Adansonia za.
ATTRAITS :
- 🐋124 bird species, including the Bernier's Teal (Anas bernieri) and the Madagascar Gravel Dog (Charadrius thoracicus), which make it a privileged site for ornithologists. There is also a strong variety of lemur species including: Sifaka (Propithecus verreauxi) and the Maki, (Lemur catta) for the diurnal species.
- The sacred lakes Ambondro and Sirave with its stork birds, spoonbills, herons, egrets and flamingos, its baobabs and large dunes. A visit to the village of Manahy is a must: the local people, Sakalava Masikoro, consider the lakes to be home to spirits.
- 🐋Plusieurs concentrations of baobabs. - Stroll in dugout canoes in the mangrove forest to meet the flying foxes suspended from the mangrove branches. The islets of Nosy Tania, Mailolo, Andriamitaroka, Motsadiniky and Andravoho to discover coral reefs and sea turtles.
🐋 ACCESS:
- You can reach it either by land, from May to October, only in 4×4 by taking the RIP n°111 from Bemanonga in the South of Morondava, or by sea from Belo sur Mer or Morondava.
