Today is World Lemur Day
Each year, a special day is dedicated to raising global awareness about lemurs — the unique primates found exclusively in Madagascar — and to emphasizing the urgent need to protect their habitats and preserve biodiversity.
Why it matters:
Lemurs are the most endangered group of mammals on Earth — over 90% of species are threatened with extinction.
They play a crucial role in Madagascar’s ecosystems, especially in seed dispersal and maintaining forest health.
We must protect lemurs and their natural habitats by preventing bushfires, stopping forest destruction, and combating wildlife trafficking.
