🇲🇬 June 26th: Madagascar’s Independence Day

June 26 marks Madagascar’s national day, commemorating its independence from France in 1960.
It’s one of the most significant dates in the Malagasy calendar — a day of pride, remembrance, and cultural affirmation.

A quick look at its history:
⏩Madagascar became a French colony in 1896, after years of resistance.
⏩The road to independence included the tragic 1947 uprising, in which tens of thousands of Malagasy lost their lives.
⏩Full independence was officially restored on June 26, 1960.

Did you know Madagascar has only one tea plantation? And it’s just 20 km from Fianarantsoa.

Welcome to Sahambavy, nestled in the Highlands — a green haven where tea is not just grown, but celebrated.

From October to April, tea is picked daily. The rest of the year? Three times a week — always by hand, always fresh.

A visit to Sahambavy takes you behind the scenes:
🌱 Wander through vibrant tea fields,
🏭 Step inside the processing plant where leaves become aroma,
☕ Finish with a tasting — because yes, you deserve that perfect cup.

It’s peaceful, it’s beautiful, and it’s the only place like it on the island.
✨ When in the south, take the detour — it’s worth every sip.

Did you know Madagascar’s only cultural UNESCO site is just 20 km from the capital?

Welcome to Ambohimanga Rova, an 18th-century royal citadel perched on a sacred hill.
Once the seat of King Andrianampoinimerina, the leader who dreamed of a unified island with no frontier but the sea, this place is much more than ancient walls and royal history.

For Malagasy people, it remains a living spiritual site.
They come here to honor their ancestors, to call on royal spirits, to seek protection and fortune.

Ambohimanga is where identity, memory, and tradition meet – only a short drive from Antananarivo.
✨ A must-see for those who want to understand the heart of Madagascar.

😋 TASTE IT HERE : Vary amin’anana & kitoza 🍲

When winter settles over Madagascar, one dish brings warmth to every home: vary amin’anana, a comforting rice and greens soup with a bold ginger twist.

Made from rice cooked in broth, mixed with local leafy greens like cresson, and plenty of fresh ginger with chives, it’s simple, healthy, and full of flavor. Just yummy.

🍳 Often served for breakfast or dinner, it's usually accompanied by kitoza - fried or smoked meat that adds a delicious contrast - and seasonal fruit juice (it's currently strawberry season) 😁

It’s everyday cooking — humble, nourishing, and deeply rooted in Malagasy life.
