From the sculpted canyons and remote camps of Isalo National Park to the granite landscapes of Anja Community Reserve, through remote Tanala villages on a multi-day trek to Manakara, and ending in the rainforest of Ranomafana National Park — this is Madagascar step by step, at human pace.

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 in the highlands of Madagascar.

🌾The rice terraces are filled to the brim, the hills glow in every shade of green, the landscape reaches that magical moment in the season when everything simply feels … alive.

The second half of March can be a wonderful surprise. The long rains often fade away at the beginning of the month, and there are still very few tourists around. 🌿Nature is fresh, vibrant and gloriously green. The sky turns a clear, dust-free blue, dotted with pure white, fluffy clouds.

Here at Madafocus, we secretly think this might just be the most 🧡 beautiful time of the year.

Wow

Madagascar and India were once part of the same landmass. Around 90 million years ago, they separated as the Indian tectonic plate began moving rapidly northward toward Asia. India would eventually collide with the Asian continent, creating the Himalayas, while Madagascar remained isolated in the Indian Ocean.

This long isolation helped turn Madagascar into one of the world’s most unique biodiversity hotspots. Today, around 90% of the island’s wildlife is found nowhere else on Earth, including lemurs, chameleons and many unusual plant species that evolved independently for millions of years.
