The Full Moon Day of Waso is the most extraordinary and significant day in the life of the Buddha and the history of Theravada Buddhism. Starting from the first waning day of Waso, Buddhist monks begin their rains retreat (Purima Vassa), a deeply revered tradition. From the Full Moon of Waso through the three-month rains retreat, most Buddhists observe the precepts on every Sabbath day.
