Tharabar Gate

Destination : Old Bagan, Mandalay Division, Myanmar

The Tharabha Gate (Burmese: သရပါ တံခါး, also spelled Sarabha or Tharaba) is the only surviving gate of Bagan (Pagan). The gate is located to the east of the old city. Although the Burmese chronicles assert that the city of Bagan was fortified in 849 CE, radiocarbon dating of evidence dates the foundation of the main walls to c. 1020 CE. If the city was fortified in the 9th century as the chronicles assert, the fortifications must have been built with less durable materials like mud.
Tharaba Gate in 1890s

The present-day gate consists of two brick-walled shrines, each opposing one another, of two guardian nats, named Min Mahagiri and Hnamadawgyi (Shwemyethna), who allegedly were executed by order of a king.

The southwest monsoon starts mid-May and peaks from July to September. The dry zone between Mandalay and Pyay gets the least rain. Rain can make roads impassable anywhere (especially in the delta region).

Myanmar’s Climate can be described as tropical monsoon climate. It is characterized by strong monsoon influences, has a considerable amount of sun, a high rate of rainfall, and high humidity that makes it sometimes feel quite uncomfortable. The annual average temperature ranges from 22 degrees Celcius (72° Fahrenheit) to 27 degrees Celcius (81° Fahrenheit) year-round.

There are three distinct seasons in Myanmar: The cold and dry season, from November to February, with average monthly temperatures of between 20°C and 24°C. The hot-dry season from March to April with average monthly temperatures between 30°C and 35°C. The wet season between May and October with average temperature between 25°C and 30°C. Annual rainfall in the delta region is approximately 2,500 millimetres (Yangon 2700 mm), while average annual rainfall in the Dry Zone is less than 1,000 millimetres (Mandalay 840 mm), the coastal regions receiving over 5,000 millimetres of rain annually.

Myanmar's Mergui
Mergui Archipelago, located in southernmost part of Myanmar (Burma), comprises over 800 beautiful islands. Due to its virtual isolation, the islands and surrounding seas are alive with an amazing diversity of flora & fauna and very beautiful underwater scenes and marine life.

The only human inhabitants in the area are sea gypsies, namely Salon in Myanmar. They live on boats during dry season and remain on land during rainy season. They still practice the same fishing and boat building techniques used for generation.

Salone Festival is held on 16th February, to promote the salone people way of life and of Mergui Archipelago a tourist Destination.

The Golden Padauk - The Flower of ''Thingyan'' (Thingyan: Myanmar Water Festival)
The padauk is referred to as the national flower of Burma and is associated with the Thingyan period, in the myanmar lunar month of Tagu (Burmese New Year, usually in the 2nd week of April).
April is almost the height of summer when temperature soars, skies are blues, and the sunshine is almost blinding although at times the skies may be overcast. At this time of the year, the leaves of most trees, large and small, have dried up, curled crisp and fallen. But one large tree stands tall and green with its canopy of emerald leaves. That is the ''Padauk"- the gum-kino tree (Pterocarpus Macrocarpus). The Padauk is waiting for the first rain showers to burst forth into bloom with its tiny fragrant yellow gold flowers. The first light showers of April usually herald the Thingyan festival and bring the Padauk to bloom in all its glory.
