A Journey of Discovery
We started as just a small operation, a few horses for riding and packing and exploring the wilds of Mongolia between conservation project work. With years of wilderness conservation and horse riding experience behind us, these trips took us into the most pristine areas the country has to offer for the adventure traveler. From the beginning, 21 years ago, each trip was an expedition of discovery, learning about this country’s nature, the great Mongolian horses and deepening the meaning of “wilderness” within us, as a soothing balm to the hectic rat race our modern world has become. “A moment of solitude in the wilderness is medicine for the soul”.
Those early trips evolved into Stone Horse Expeditions today, where we share that sense of discovery and the calming effects of traveling through pure nature with our experienced, steady and trusted horses. Every trip is different. We learn something new, sharing our stories with our guests and hearing theirs. Beginning each expedition as acquaintances and ending each trip as friends, with new stories to tell. From the horse riding expeditions in the Khentii Mountains to the desert excursions of the Gobi, we look to explore new areas and new routes with our fellow travelers. Sharing this extraordinary country with our guests is what drives us to continually try new things, improve what we do with our horses, our own handmade saddles and equipment and the food we prepare and serve each day for nourishment. Always keeping in mind our commitment to preserving the natural world and making life better for all of us.
