The Altai Eagle Festival is a breathtaking celebration of heritage, skill, and the unbreakable bond between human and eagle. Surrounded by the dramatic landscapes of Tolbo Lake, this two-day festival offers travelers an exclusive chance to witness one of the world’s most remarkable cultural gatherings.
Day 1 – September 20: The Grand Opening
09:00 – 10:00 | Registration of Eagle Hunters
Local eagle hunters arrive in full regalia, proudly presenting their majestic golden eagles.
10:00 – 10:25 | Welcoming & Parade of Participants
Behold a colorful parade as hunters, dressed in traditional Kazakh costumes, ride horseback with their eagles perched proudly on their arms. A stirring traditional concert sets the stage.
10:30 – 11:00 | Official Opening Ceremony
Festival leaders and honored guests open the celebrations with words of tradition and pride.
11:00 – 13:00 | First Round of Eagle Calling (Part I)
Watch as eagle hunters demonstrate their mastery by summoning their trained golden eagles from the mountaintops, showcasing the strength of their bond.
13:00 – 14:00 | Lunch Break
Enjoy hearty Kazakh and Mongolian cuisine, while mingling with locals and fellow travelers.
14:00 – 17:00 | First Round of Eagle Calling (Part II)
The remaining hunters present their skills in this dramatic showcase.
17:10 | Announcement of Finalists
Organizers reveal which hunters advance to the second day of competition.
Day 2 – September 21: The Finals & Closing Ceremony
10:00 – 13:00 | Shyrga – The Eagle Calling Finals
Experience the climax of the competition as eagles are tested in their precision and swiftness by being called to swoop down on a lure made of stuffed animal skin.
13:00 – 14:00 | Lunch Break
A chance to relax and soak in the festive atmosphere around Tolbo Lake.
14:00 – 16:00 | Traditional Games & Festivities
Coin Pick-Up on Horseback – Riders demonstrate astonishing agility.
Tug of War – Hunters, locals, and even tourists join in the test of strength.
Kyz Kuar – A playful “bride chase” horseback competition, where men and women race in a spirited test of speed and skill.
17:00 – 18:00 | Closing Ceremony & Awards
Champions are honored in a grand finale, as the festival closes with celebrations that capture the pride and endurance of Kazakh heritage.
