Altain Magtaal (Алтайн Магтаал) means “In Praise of the Altai” — one of the most beloved traditional Mongolian folk songs, praising the Altai Mountains and describing the animals and birds that inhabit them.

This is one of the oldest traditional songs, with many different versions — the lyrics often vary depending on the region, and it is traditionally sung by the Uriankhai people of western Mongolia. Songs like this are a tribute to the mountains, rivers, and wildlife of western Mongolia, reflecting the deep spiritual bond between the Mongolian people and their land.

The piece is traditionally performed with instruments such as the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle) and tovshuur (lute), often accompanied by khöömii — the remarkable Mongolian overtone singing tradition.
