Conservation and citizen science in Mongolia / Conservation et sciences participatives en Mongolie

ℹ️ The Mongolian khulan (Equus hemionus hemionus) - or Mongolian wild ass - is a sub-species of the Asiatic Wild Ass which a threatened wild Equid, still less known than the African wild ass, the different species of Zebras or the Przewalski's horse.

🌱The Mongolian khulan inhabits the Gobi Desert of Mongolia - with small populations in Inner Mongolia as well.

This year in June, we will lead a very special and unique tour in Mongolia which purpose is mostly focused on species and habitat conservation by combining wildlife observation, to citizen science and meeting with people locally involved in conservation. For each tour organized a donation will contribute to our NGO's Conservation Fund (to support our conservation work) and to a Community Fund (to support the local community of our study area).

ℹ️ L'hémione de Mongolie (Equus hemionus hemionus) - ou âne sauvage de Mongolie, est une des sous-espèces de l'âne sauvage d'Asie qui est un équidé sauvage menacé, bien moins connu que l'âne sauvage d'Afrique, les différentes espèces de zèbre, ou le cheval de Przewalski.

🌱L'hémione de Mongolie, ou khulan en Mongol, vit principalement dans le désert de Gobi avec de petites populations en Mongolie intérieure. Mais son habitat s'étendait davantage dans le passé.

Au mois de juin cette année nous guiderons une expédition très spéciale et unique dont l'objectif est de contribuer à la conservation des espèces et de leur habitat en combinant l'observation de la faune sauvage, les sciences participatives et la rencontre avec des acteurs locaux de la conservation des espèces. Pour chaque expédition organisée, un don contribuera au fond pour la conservation et au fond pour la communauté locale de mon association.

📣🇲🇳 In November Mongolia has reopened its airport borders to fully-vaccinated travellers giving us more hope to welcome travellers to join our conservation expeditions starting from June! The Association GOVIIN KHULAN's team will of course follow all preventive measures related to the Covid19 and we are happy to answer your questions if you have any concerns.

This year theme is Networking for Migratory Birds.
We will have a special lecture by experts, birding and other bird photograph exhibitions and other public related activities for this year event".

We have recently lauched a project on the crowfunding website ULULE to raise funding to conduct a new field mission this winter in the southeast Gobi.

Our aim: start research on behavioral ecology of the Khulan in winter, continue our research on interactions with other species and human activities and nature of threats affecting this sub-species survival, and continue our actions with local rangers, citizen conservationists, Buddhist monasteries, schools and local communities.

We have 5 days to get our first 5 supporters and then validate the project and increase its visibility on Ulule. Then, we have 33 days to collect 1,900 Euros for this winter, and even more if possible to buy further trail cameras and for other activities of our program.

We already have 4 supporters including Les deux oreilles that donate 105 euros! Les deux oreilles recently published a method to learn to throat sing and used a linocut with khulans to illustrate this method (see bellow the photo we posted about 2 hours ago). Nous avons récemment mis en ligne sur le site ULULE un projet pour collecter des financements pour conduire une nouvelle mission de terrain cet hiver dans le sud-est Gobi.

Les objectifs: commencer les recherches sur l'écologie comportementale de l'hémione en hiver, continuer nos recherches sur les interactions avec les autres espèces et activités humaines et sur les menaces affectant la survie de l'espèce, ainsi que continuer nos actions avec les rangers/gardes, conservationnistes citoyens, monastères Bouddhistes, écoles et communautés locales.

Nous avons 5 jours pour obtenir 5 soutiens financiers (à partir de 5 Euros) afin de valider le projet, et 33 jours pour collecter 1900 Euros pour cet hiver et si possible plus pour acheter de nouvelles caméras de surveillance et financer les diverses activités de notre programme.

Nous avons déjà 4 donateurs dont la maison d'édition les deux oreilles qui a donné 105 euros! Cette maison d'édition a récemment publiée une méthode pour apprendre le chant diphonique et a d'ailleurs utilisé une linogravure avec des hémiones pour illustrer cette méthode (voir plus bas notre publication il y a environ deux heures auparavant).
