IL- HOBZA TAL- MALTI . (Maltese bread).
Traditional, Maltese delicacy food. A dark crunchy crust with its core made of soft dough filled with irregular holes.
Ingredients are water, salt, and flour also raised by tinsila from the previous loaves. Usually, it is baked in wood burning ovens that are scattered in every town.
In most occasions, the bread is spread with tomato paste (kunserva), or fresh tomatoes dipped in olive oil, mixed with onions, capers and tuna, or else simply spread with butter....

The feast of St. Joseph is celebrated on the 19th of March, a time when everybody is prepared to embrace spring!
Here on the island, the day is observed as a public holiday.

Parishioners of Rabat, in particular, are very devout of St. Joseph and they are very keen to celebrate in style.
One can experience walking through the beautifully decorated streets of Rabat, as well as partaking in the colourful processions with accompanying musical bands. Fireworks will also be part of the event.

It is noteworthy to mention that during the month of March, an old tradition of St. Joseph cakes ( in maltese "Zeppoli ta' San Guzepp") are baked and are to be found in many coffee shops or sweet shops.
Zeppoli are mouth- watering fried pastries filled with sweet rikotta and honey.
Surely not to be missed!!!!

Maltese Balcony.. in maltese "Gallarija".
They are still much part of Maltese way of life. Generally are found in village and city core.
It's a wooden covered balcony, with glass windows.

One of the few feast celebrated in winter here in Malta is the feast of St. Paul's Shipwreck, which falls every year on the 10th of February.
Here on the island the day is observed as a public holiday and the feast marks the commemoration of the Maltese conversion to Christianity.

Religious ceremonies and processions are celebrated at the Church of St. Paul's Shipwreck in Valletta.

A brief account of St.Paul's shipwreck. The full passage can be found in Acts 27:27, 28:5.

Paul, imprisioned was being transported to Rome to be tried before Caesar on a ship that had sailed from Adramyttium in modern-day Turkey. On the journey, the ship had encountered a violent storm.

Paul, guided by divine intervention ordered that nobody should leave the ship. It was when the ship hit a sandbar and ran aground that they had to swim ashore miraculously escaping the cluthes of death. Once ashore they were surprised by the way the locals welcomed them compelling Paul to praise their kindness and generosity.

When making a fire, Paul was bitten by a snake and the locals were astonished that he suffered no ill-effects.

During his three months stay on the island, Paul healed the father of the chief of the island St Publius, after which many islanders would come to Paul to receive healing and converting to christianty.

In turn the locals paid them great honour and provided all the provisions when they set sail for Rome.

Saint Paul is venerated to this present day for preaching the word of the Lord Jesus Christ.
In the course of history churches and chapels were built in his dedication throughout the country.
