EcoMarine Malta

EcoMarine Malta “Tourism can be Sustainable, and it can respect the ecosystem.”
We want to offer a new Eco-frien

The Mediterranean Sea surrounds Malta; a very particular closed Sea but very rich in endemic and other flagship species amongst which are eight species of cetaceans. We offer a unique experience in close contact with the sea, leading up to the actual encounter with sea mammals and other sea creatures. Our great passion and respect for the marine environment have been gained through years of on-sit

e experience through research; this is what sets us apart from other nature-based tourism activities. We aim at personalising our services on the specific needs, of our guests. The basis of this idea is the wider dissemination of environmental consciousness and sustainability. We propose excursions at sea which include dolphin and sea life watching tours, sea cave tours, free diving and also snorkelling with a small boat. We can not guarantee to see dolphins or other wild animals, but we can guarantee to have an educational, emotionally and relaxing day in the fantastic Sea that surrounds Maltese Islands. We can promise to swim in crystal clear and rich waters and to admire breathtaking views during the tour, always accompanied by the naturalistic explanations of biologists on board.

We are super happy and excited to have Macy, Julia, Emma and Elias on board 🍾 We have officially started our work together at the office, and it is already been such a great energy boost. 🐠 Over the next few days, I look forward to showing them around and diving into the different projects we are involved in: from research to outreach, conservation and beyond.
🙏We are truly grateful that they have trusted us and decided to embark on this experience. 🐳 Their presence is not only valuable, it is meaningful. 🐬This journey will be a powerful opportunity for us to grow, learn and become more inclusive in the way we work and connect with others.

"Avoidance distance is the mandatory distance you have to keep away from cetaceans – that means whales and dolphins – when you're on the water."

This rule doesn’t apply only to orcas — all cetaceans are affected by our presence at sea. That’s why it’s so important to respect both the speed limits and the avoidance distance when encountering marine mammals.

According to the Accobams dolphin & whale conservation - dauphins & baleines Code of Conduct for the Mediterranean Sea, the avoidance distance is 100 metres. This space helps reduce stress, noise disturbance, and the risk of collisions, allowing dolphins and whales to behave naturally and safely.

Let’s remember: being in their presence is a privilege , and with that comes responsibility. 🐬💙

☀️ Yesterday we had another beautiful experience with a lovely group on board.

🤩 It’s always so rewarding to welcome people who are curious and genuinely interested in learning more about dolphins, seabirds, turtles, and the many other incredible species that inhabit our waters, all while simply enjoying the sea respectfully and mindfully.

🐬 After an exciting dolphin encounter—conducted strictly following the Code of Conduct for a responsible approach—we made our way towards a bay for our usual swim and light lunch break.

🫥 Our plan was to enter one of Malta’s most stunning bays, Hofriet, but when we arrived, we were met by a crowd of over 30 anchored boats, making the atmosphere feel congested and far from the natural, tranquil experience we aim to offer.

🌊 This is not what we promise our guests, so we proposed a change: instead, we headed a little offshore for a peaceful swim and a relaxed lunch “on the go,” surrounded by open sea and silence.

It turned into a truly special moment—a day in contact with nature, far from the noise and the crowd, where we could experience the marine environment as it should be: with respect, peace, and joy.

🥰 A big thank you to Ania for the invaluable help 😍

Two years ago, following our suggestion, TTransport Maltalaunched a campaign to raise awareness about the Code of Conduct for marine wildlife encounters, and this still applies today.

🇬🇧 Apart from the fact that a boater must be vigilant for any simmers or divers in the vicinity, he must also make sure that there are no other protected animals in his vicinity such as cetaceans and turtles.

🚤☀️ We’re back in full season!
The sea is buzzing with boats, sunshine, and… dolphins! 🐬
We’ve had many sightings lately — a real joy for everyone on the water.

BUT… with more boats out there, it’s important to remember:
👉 Do you know how to enjoy dolphin encounters in a respectful and low-impact way?

Here’s a small reminder of the basic rules 😊:

✅ SLOW DOWN when dolphins are nearby
✅ Stay parallel to their course — don’t cut across or chase
✅ Keep a safe distance — at least 100 meters
✅ Don’t surround them – it causes stress
✅ Let them choose if they want to approach
✅ Enjoy quietly — avoid loud music or sudden noise

Let’s share the sea with care.
Together, we can protect our marine life and make every encounter meaningful. 💙

Be a Voice for the Voiceless! 🐬 We have 9.000 followers Imagine the impact if each of us took just one moment to stand up for marine life.

Dolphins and whales belong in the wild—not in tanks.

Together, we can demand change and protect the future of these intelligent beings.

🐬 Respect is Part of the Magic
We love spotting dolphins—but always on their terms.
No chasing. No feeding. No loud music.
Just admiration from a respectful distance.

💙 That’s how we keep their world wild and wonderful.

🐳And there's more—every trip helps us collect data to better understand and protect Malta’s dolphin population.
When you join us, you're not just enjoying the sea—
you're part of something bigger.

🐬Remember the rules. Respect the ocean. Be the difference.

We've been quiet, but for a great reason! 🎉

Over the past months, we’ve been fully dedicated to closing the Delfish PAM project, and we’re thrilled to share that it was a huge success! 🐬✨

🔹 Thanks to Xjenza MaltaMalta for funding this research!
🔹 We recorded over 1,000 hours of dolphin vocalizations near aquaculture sites and fishing aggregation devices (FADs).
🔹 The first analyses confirm what we suspected—and also raise new exciting questions!

A special mention to Cossio, who worked on this project for her master's thesis. She did an amazing job, and we are so proud that she will be graduating on March 21st! 🎓👏

This project wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable contribution of so many people:
💙 Silvia Pace , Papale, Giulia Pedrazzi for their scientific support
💙 Matthew La Spina Parisi and Jean Paul Schembri, from the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture - Malta for their help in engaging stakeholders
💙Debra Camilleri Senior Executive Officer Policy, EU International Affairs and Underwater Heritage Unit for being there during a difficult moment
💙 Aquilina for her incredible work
💙 All the amazing volunteers who helped throughout the project
💙 A special thanks to Ania, who is always ready to support our cause
💙 A big thank you to Malta Fish Farming Ltd for granting us access to their site
💙A big thank you to and for the amazing videos they produced for the project!

🙏 Thank you to everyone who supported us, followed our work, and continues to believe in our project.

🌍 Sustainable tourism as a tool for conservation—Delfish PAM proves that it’s possible! Through Delfish PAM, we’ve gained valuable knowledge that we will share with tourists and everyone joining our experiences, turning each experience into an opportunity for marine conservation!
